The interest began after I designed KOSMOS, the 3D navigation mouse and I knew it needed a companion mouse to complete the set. NOVA is designed as a touch based mouse that detects up to three finger gestures, and equipped with touch stripe for scrolling.
Although it could capable of working as a standalone mouse, NOVA is designed to work along side with KOSMOS.
Design Inspiration
Drawing from same astronomy inspiration as KOSMOS, I focused on the meteorite element as the starting point for the mouse. Nova signifies a new born star so I gathered patterns and CMF that encapsulates the idea around three pillars:
Spark of light | Mystery of space | Elegant transition of surfaces.
PACKAGING
I wanted the packaging to be super simple yet intuitive. The user will actually be educated on how to to use the product during the unboxing process. The aesthetics is inspired by japanese style packaging with the use of elegant linear patterns and gold accents. I wanted to bring the packaging to life and give it a premium high end feel. The use of black suggests a mysterious identity, and the gold foil accent is used as a contrast to provide extra texture element for a tangible user experience.
