KOSMOS
Three-Dimensional Navigation Mouse
Inspired by CAD ideation process, I set out to design a three-dimensional navigation mouse I always wanted.
KOSMOS alleviates one of the greatest huddles when navigating in 3D space and improves the user’s 3D workflow. It is a 3D navigation mouse with 6 degrees-of-freedom (6DoF) knob and programmable touch sensitive buttons including one on top of the knob.
Designed for 3D artists, Industrial Designers, and engineers.
Design Inspiration
I thought it would be appropriate to draw inspiration from astronomy for a space mouse with the use of accented lighting on a gaming keyboard to highlight the product in a tasteful way. In order to eliminate any distractions, the keyboard would maintain a very clean and minimalistic layout design.
I explored the common denominator between various 3D application interfaces and 3D workflow to discover the pain points. I believe an intuitive 3D mouse should be an extension of your hand.
USER INTERFACE
What excites me the most was the idea of being able to display only valuable info and goes away when it’s no longer relevant.
This reduces the clutter and allow it to be fundamentally thinner and lighter.
Context-Sensitive Buttons
By simplifying and making it transparent to the users. it reduces the number of commands required to carry out a given operation.
TOUCHSCREEN
The additional touch sensitive button with haptic feedback on top of the knob adds a layer of depth while to navigate in three dimensional space.
